The Journey of a Stray Persian Cat to a Loving Home

Introducing Augustus, affectionately known as “Gus Gus”! This charming Persian feline hails from Nashville, Tennessee and was rescued after wandering the streets for several months. Despite his stunning appearance and lovable personality, it’s astonishing to think that Gus Gus was a stray. His human mom, Madeline, shares all about him in the following tale.

The moment I first met Augustus, my very first foster cat with Fluff Nashville, was love at first sight. We gave him the name Augustus to match his personality. Augustus is a quirky, amusing little guy, reminiscent of the beloved character Gus Gus from Cinderella. He’s a Persian mix and was rescued after spending three months wandering the streets. I still recall the day I went to pick him up and caught a glimpse of his enormous blue eyes peeking out at me from his carrier.

As I extended my hand to stroke him, the feline began to purr right away. I knew right then and there that I was smitten! Once we arrived home, he had a distinct odor of refuse and appeared famished as he devoured three servings of cat food.

Fostering Mishap
During the time we had him as a foster pet, I found myself shedding tears every single day at the mere idea of giving him away to another family. Something within me knew he was meant to stay with us forever! Our household already consisted of two lovely cats, Khaleesi and Toogie, but I eventually managed to persuade my husband into adopting another one.

Gus Gus turned out to be a permanent addition to the Fitzpatrick family after we fostered him. But we realized that three cats were enough for us, and we haven’t had another foster failure since then. It’s been quite a journey, as we’ve fostered almost thirty cats so far.

Can you describe the personality of Gus Gus?
Gus Gus is an absolute sweetheart! Whenever I come back home from work, he eagerly rushes down the stairs and communicates his excitement with plenty of meowing. He’s also my constant companion, following me wherever I go.

My furry friend is always by my side, craving affection and cuddles. Whether I’m in the kitchen or the living room, he’s right there, hoping for a pat on the head or a scratch behind the ears. At night, he snuggles up next to me on the bed, often settling in on my pillow above my head. While he also has a soft spot for my husband, it’s clear that I’m his favorite human. He’s definitely a mama’s boy at heart.

A Delightful Ending
Despite his large appearance, Gus is a ball of fluff and only weighs around 7 pounds. His age is uncertain, but the veterinarian approximates that he is between 4 to 6 years old.

He absolutely adores the limelight when he dons his Halloween outfits! To me, he looks incredibly dashing in his getup. And it’s pretty clear that anyone who comes across him can’t help but be charmed!

Gus Gus is a friendly canine, he never fails to greet people warmly as soon as they enter our house. He’s quite popular among our visitors, the veterinarian and even with the cat groomer. Without a doubt, Gus has brought an immense amount of happiness and amusement into our lives and has made our family whole.

Madeline provides a home for cats and kittens in need of fostering through the organization FLUFF Nashville. You can follow her and her foster kitties, such as the handsome Gus Gus, on Instagram to stay up-to-date on their adventures! It’s important to remember that Gus Gus and many other rescue cats are in need of loving homes.

As advocates for rescue cat adoption, National Kitty suggests checking with local rescues before considering a breeder if you’re looking for a particular breed. Many purebred cats end up in shelters or rescue groups and need forever families. Even if the rescue doesn’t currently have the cat breed you want, they can keep you informed when one becomes available. Remember, adopt don’t shop for your furry companion and do it ethically.
