She couldn’t leave the stairs for years because she was kept on a heavy chain that was too short

While some people treat their dogs like they are part of the family, others sadly subjugate them to neglect and poor conditions, writes ilovemydogsomuch

Unfortunately, Libre experienced the latter.

The four-year-old guard-dog of an abandoned house in Cagua, Venezuela, was kept chained up day and night without food or water.

The heavy chain around her neck made it hard for her to breathe, and it was so short that she couldn’t even rest her down.

Thankfully, her suffering finally came to an end when concerned neighbors saw how her owner was treating her, and immediately reported them to the police and local animal shelter.

When rescuers arrived, Libre was starving and gladly ate up all of the food that they fed her.

They removed the chain to reveal raw skin around her neck, which was caused by years of hanging from the tight metal chain around her neck. They treated her wound and got her proper medical care.

Libre is now loving life and is extremely thankful for her second chance.
