We all love happy endings, but like any other story, we cannot neglect the bitter beginnings. Just like the story of Cala, a mechanic’s guard-dog in San Jose, Costa Rica, who suffered a miserable state of being tied up on a chain so short, that she could neither lay her head down, nor breathe properly.
She was in bad shape, she suffered from wounds and malnutrition. Good thing she was rescued and brought to Territorio de Zaguates, the animal shelter where she slowly recovered.
However, another hurdle came to Cala’s life when heartless people tried to sneak in the shelter and fed the dogs with poison-infused sausages. Because of the incident, 16 dogs died, and Cala suffered some neurological problems.
After overcoming difficult challenges, we’re glad to say that she finally found a family who treats her well, helping her to restore her faith in humanity again. Witness Cala’s heart-warming story through the pictures below.
Cala was in this miserable state for years. She can’t lay her head down, or even breathe properly.
Concerned neighbors finally took action and Cala was brought to the dog shelter, Territorio de Zaguates.
It was almost too late for Cala. She was in a very bad condition.
When she was taken in, she was malnourished and covered in wounds that she couldn’t even stand.
The recovery process was long and quite painful for Cala.
Aside from physical weakness, Cala also had a hard time trusting any person or even other dogs.
In spite of the hard and lengthy healing process, the rescuers were very determined to help her.
Soon, Cala was back in shape.
However, even after her recovery, another hurdle came about her life.
Heartless people snuck into the shelter and fed the dogs with poison-infused sausages.

But Cala was a tough dog, she fought for her life until she was able to overcome another hurdle.
Today, Cala is living the best life she could ever have. With a new loving family, she’s ready to trust again.
