A homeless feline stumbled upon a suitable family to lend her a helping hand, ensuring that her litter of kittens would have a shot at a brighter future.
Earlier this year, a cat made her way to a barn in Lake Chelan, Washington. Sadly, nobody came to claim her, so a kind neighbor started taking care of her.
However, it wasn’t long before they discovered that the torbie was pregnant and needed a safe place to give birth. Thankfully, Ashley Morrison, a Seattle-based rescuer and fosterer, was contacted about the feline and immediately agreed to take her in. Ashley explained that the cat was initially shy and disoriented when they first met.
Once the pregnant feline received a satisfying meal and a cozy space, she grew comfortable with her temporary caretakers. Her fascination with what she saw on Bird TV, visible through the window, was immediate, and she frequently spent hours perched on the windowsill, observing the world outside.
The cat was given the name Birdie due to her exceptional bird-watching skills. As she neared her due date, her belly grew twice its size. One day, Ashley entered the cat room to a pleasant surprise – Birdie had given birth to the cutest little kittens overnight. In preparation for the birth, Ashley had provided a basket with soft blankets in the bathroom in case Birdie preferred a more peaceful and dimly lit environment.
Without a doubt, Birdie opted for the perfect spot to birth her litter of five kittens from the various options that Ashley had prepared. These tiny creatures were born in a warm and loving environment, free from the weather elements outside. As a young mother, Birdie took on the responsibility of caring for her demanding offspring and ensured their safety at all times. Ashley provided a secure space for Birdie, with a clear view of one entrance. The group of five kittens has flourished under the care of their foster family. Despite being only six weeks old, they have already learned to eat from their own dish and have taken over the cat room. However, they still seek comfort and nourishment from their mother during the day. Once they are ready for adoption, they will undergo spaying and neutering before finding their forever homes.
Momma Birdie is finally retiring from motherhood and seeking a place to call her own, where she can enjoy being a kitten again. The litter mates, Dove, Finch, Hawk, Raven, and Robin, are doing incredibly well and their distinct personalities are starting to show. Despite having multiple beds available, the kittens still choose to cuddle up together on one scratcher.
